House of the Dragon episode 5

Alicent Hightower interrupting Viserys’s speech wasn’t the big upset in House of the Dragon. It was all about her green dress.

When Alicent Hightower interrupted her husband’s speech at the wedding feast, people gasped. They were shocked that she would make such an entrance. That made it clear that she wanted all eyes on her.

However, it wasn’t just the interruption that had people talking. It was all about her dress of choice. Well, more specifically, the color of her dress of choice.

A green dress doesn’t mean much to us in the real world. It means everything in the world of House of the Dragon.

There was a comment about the color between the guests. The green flame is the color of choice when the Hightowers call their banners. This means green is the color for Hightowers when it comes to war and battle.

Alicent Hightower is making a statement with her green dress. It is like she is calling her banners. She’s making it clear that she will put up a fight for her son when the time comes.

This all comes off the back of Otto making it clear that Alicent needs to prepare her son Aegon to rule. If she doesn’t, Rhaenyra will kill Aegon and Helaena in an attempt to prevent civil war. Having Aegon around is too much of a threat. We can remember from Game of Thrones that there were questions about Daenerys’s right to rule when it turned out that Jon Snow was actually Aegon Targaryen.

Alicent doesn’t want something to happen to her children in House of the Dragon. She can see that Rhaenyra is keeping secrets from her. What else could her former best friend do? Alicent isn’t leaving anything to chance, and she’s making her position clear. She will put up a fight, and she expects the Hightower bannermen to follow her.
