The Grave Digger Monster Jam Truck was always my favorite of the bunch as a kid. Engulfed in green flames and a purple mist, its distinct paint job caught my eye. I had a passion for all things with wheels, and my Dad took notice.

I’ve blogged about frequent trips to the Atlanta International Auto Show at the Georgia World Congress Center with my Dad during childhood. It was a 500,000-square-foot experience that fueled my passion for vehicles. From concept cars to Lamborghinis to your everyday sedan, I made sure to sit and scan every single ride.

The Georgia Dome, which sat next to the Georgia World Congress Center, was home to a different kind of automotive spectacle each year: Monster Jam. Monster Jam is a live motorsport event tour operated by Feld Entertainment. The series began in 1992, and is sanctioned under the umbrella of the United States Hot Rod Association. The main attraction is always the racing, two-wheel skills competition and freestyle competitions by monster trucks.

Earplugs and all, I had the chance to see Grave Digger, Megalodon, Monster Mutt, and Blue Thunder battle in the stadium built to hold 80,000. A few years later, I visited Woodstock, Ga.’s, Dixie Speedway, a 3/8 mile clay oval with 5,000 seats spread out over a 150-acre property. I remember loading into a Ram truck with my Dad, best friend and his dad for an unforgettable night under the lights and above the dirt.

We stopped at Dairy Queen for dinner and ice cream on the way, anticipating a more up-close-and-personal experience with some of our favorite monster trucks. The show left me in awe, but the best part was meeting the then-current Grave Digger driver. He signed my checkered flag souvenir, which I still have today.

Now monster trucks might not need paint protection film or window tint as much as your average enthusiast car, but these experiences fueled a love for vehicles that lives on today. Whenever I call installers and owners for interviews, I like finding out what cars are in the shop that day. It allows me to keep up with your business happenings and reminds me how blessed I am to work around machines I’ve been passionate about my entire life.
