You might know the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition as the unofficial kickoff to spring in the Lowcountry, heralding the return of the tourist season, a world-class exhibition of nature-based art, and a series of one-of-a-kind events like the champion dock dogs, sheep and duck herding, birds of prey demonstrations, and more.

That alone justifies SEWE’s place as a premier celebration of wildlife and a cornerstone of the Lowcountry event calendar. But SEWE offers so much more.

Each year, SEWE hosts an array of unique events that bring people together, inform and entertain, and raise money for conservation causes. Special events make the festival more accessible to all: you don’t need a ticket to the entirety of SEWE to buy a ticket to a single event!

Tickets for these special events are available on the SEWE website with prices ranging from $25 to $165, depending on the event. Here are the highlights:

Cocktails & Conservation with Garden & Gun Magazine

Enjoy compelling conversations on wildlife, sporting, culture, and conservation. Staged at the offices of Garden & Gun magazine on upper East Bay Street, this special event pairs CJ Lotz, the magazine’s editor; Kelly S. Turner, curator and artistic director of Garden & Gun’s Birdwatching exhibit; and author, poet, and ornithologist J. Drew Lanham to discuss birdwatching and more. Handcrafted cocktails and an opportunity to shop a limited collection of fine sporting and outdoor goods are only the beginning.

Birds of a Feather Ladies Brunch

Co-hosted with SEWE by Norton & Hodges at Hotel Emeline, this brunch benefit features a three-course meal, open bar, and silent auction of unique items. All the while, a SEWE artist paints live as avian friends share the evening. Proceeds from this exclusive event support Rhino Momma Project, protecting and growing the world’s rhino population.

The Charleston Safari Club Annual Gala

Wear your favorite safari gear and step into Africa for a night of safari discussion. Take a chance on winning an exotic hunting or angling trip, buy a raffle for guns and gear, meet outfitters, and book your next adventure—all while enjoying decadent food and an open bar. Proceeds from this event at the Harbour Club in its new Westedge location benefit Charleston Safari Club’s Youth Outdoor Education Camp.

South Carolina Waterfowl Association (SCWA) Annual Sportsman’s Ball

Dress in your best cocktail duds and dance the night away at Mt. Pleasant’s Omar Shrine Temple. Dinner features wild game with a live auction offering once-in-a-lifetime hunts. The silent auction takes up half the banquet hall, so you’re nearly guaranteed to find something to take home.

Ducks Unlimited Oyster Roast & Lowcountry Cookout

It’s the 25th year for East Cooper Ducks Unlimited’s annual event at the Charleston Visitor Center Bus Shelter. It’s one of North America’s largest Ducks Unlimited events and features pigs and pearls—whichever pleases your palate. Music, an open bar, and raffles with live and silent auctions are only the beginning. Admission includes an annual membership to the Ducks Unlimited chapter.

SCWA Annual Duck Shuck Oyster Roast

Enjoy a wintery night in Charleston with conservation and oyster shucking. This event features tents with rows of tables of fresh oysters, heavy hors d’ouvres, and a live band outside. Live and silent auctions, raffles, and relaxing music keep the mood light. Proceeds benefit SCWA’s youth camps, Camp Leopold, and Camp Woodie.

Tickets are already sold out for the Lowcountry Social, Signature Gala and Sale, and SEWE Soiree, and more events are expected to sell out soon! Secure your tickets today or purchase a general admission ticket for a day or weekend of excitement. It’s almost time to kick off spring 2022 in Charleston!
