WESTPORT — Portions of two roadways in the center of town have been closed through the Memorial Day weekend to allow for the 2022 Downtown Merchant Association’s Fine Arts Festival, police announced Friday.

“To accommodate the vendors and assure the safety of pedestrians some roadways will be closed to vehicular traffic starting this morning,” Lt. David Wolf said in an email. “Motorists should expect minor delays when traveling through the center of town during the next few days.”

Wolf said Main Street would be shuttered between its intersections with Post Road East and Avery Place, as would Elm Street between where it meets the Baldwin Parking Lot and Main Street.

The closures, instituted Friday morning, are scheduled to last through Sunday evening, he said.

This year brings the 49th iteration of the annual festival, according to the Westport Downtown Association.

“Our nationally recognized, juried festival features a premier roster of national and international fine artists exhibiting in a variety of categories - including painting, photography, sculpture, fiber, printmaking, mixed media, glass, ceramics, jewelry, wood, graphics and print making. All artwork is available for purchase in a wide variety of price ranges, subject matter and style - sure to inspire everyone,” officials said. “This art festival is free to the public and there will be high quality on-site food vending, live music and some activities just for the kids.”
