SOUTH HAVEN, MI -- With the summer season winding down, a number of South Haven city services are ending soon, including the beach flag safety program.

The beach flag safety program will end for the year on Sunday, Sept. 18, the city of South Haven said in a news release. After Sunday, the beach flags (green, yellow, or red) will not be posted at the seven public beaches.

The beach flag system uses color-coded flags to warn swimmers of conditions at the beach.

Beach hazard notifications from the National Weather Service and pier closures will continue to be noticed using the text-alert system, Nixle. To sign up for beach notifications, text BEACHES to 888777, the city said.

The beach parking program ended for the year Thursday. The city’s municipal marinas close for the year on Oct. 15.
